Major Infrastructure Investment: Egyptian-UAE Partnership to Build Combined-Cycle Power Plant in Mauritania
In a significant step towards advancing energy infrastructure and sustainability in West Africa, the Egyptian-UAE firm GoGas Holding has signed a Joint Development Agreement with Madkour Holding Group. The two companies aim to establish a combined-cycle power plant in Nouakchott, Mauritania, powered by gas resources from the offshore Banda Tevet field, currently being developed by GoGas.
This project underscores the increasing focus on investment, construction, and innovation in the region’s energy sector, facilitating the transition to cleaner energy sources and enhancing the reliability of power generation. The offshore Banda Tevet gas field is seen as a strategic asset, laying the foundation for long-term sustainable development in Mauritania.
According to the agreement, the first phase of the power plant is expected to begin generating electricity by the end of 2028. The initial capacity will be 200 megawatts (MW), with a planned increase to 365 MW in subsequent phases. This substantial capacity will contribute significantly to Mauritania’s power supply, supporting both domestic consumption and potential energy exports to neighboring countries.
By leveraging advanced combined-cycle technology, the plant will achieve higher efficiency and lower emissions compared to conventional power generation methods, aligning with global trends toward environmental responsibility and energy innovation in the oil and gas sector.
As the project progresses, it is anticipated to stimulate economic growth, create job opportunities, and reinforce cross-border cooperation between Egyptian, UAE, and Mauritanian stakeholders.
