Three African Fintech Leaders Recognized in TIME100 Most Influential Companies of 2025

In a major acknowledgment of Africa’s growing influence in the global technology landscape, three of the continent’s fintech leaders—Flutterwave, Moniepoint Group, and Tyme—have been named to the TIME100 Most Influential Companies of 2025. This honor places them alongside global giants such as OpenAI, Meta, Amazon, and SpaceX, further solidifying Africa’s role as an epicenter of financial innovation.

Additionally, Janngo.africa, a pan-African venture capital firm known for addressing the gender funding disparity across the continent, was awarded the Impact in Equality award by TIME.

Flutterwave – Expanding Global Reach

Described as “Africa’s most valuable fintech,” Flutterwave, a Nigeria-based startup founded just nine years ago and now valued at $3 billion, continues to extend its reach well beyond the continent’s borders. In 2024, Flutterwave expanded its Send App money transfer service across every U.S. state except Texas. According to the company, the app now completes an impressive 98% of transactions within five minutes.

Moniepoint Group – Powering Small Businesses

Moniepoint Group, recognized as Africa’s fastest-growing fintech and the continent’s fourth fastest-growing company overall, is deeply embedded in Nigeria’s informal economy. With 90% of Nigeria’s 40 million small and medium-sized enterprises operating in the informal economy and relying on cash payments, Moniepoint has stepped in to bridge gaps in access to banking, credit, and growth. Its range of banking services is helping these businesses surface from the shadow economy and participate in broader economic progress.

Tyme – Banking for the Underbanked

Tyme Group stands out for its multi-country growth strategy, anchored in the principle: “meet underbanked individuals where they already are.” By eschewing traditional brick-and-mortar branches and instead placing banking kiosks in retail stores familiar to prospective customers, Tyme is able to make formal banking accessible to underserved communities on a significant scale.

Janngo.africa – Championing Funding Equality

The Impact in Equality recognition by TIME went to Janngo.africa, which continues its commitment to gender equity in African venture investing. In the past year, founder Ba and her team secured an additional $78 million for Janngo’s second investment fund, marking one of the largest amounts ever raised by an Africa-born woman-led investment firm. This is notable in the context of a broader funding crunch, with African venture capital investment witnessing a 7% decline to $3.2 billion in 2024.

Africa’s Fintech Influence Rises

These accolades mark a proud moment for the African fintech ecosystem, highlighting not just impressive growth rates and global expansion, but also the vital roles these organizations play in inclusion, access, and long-term financial infrastructure.
