Botswana Government Announces New Cabinet Appointments to Drive Infrastructure and Transport Development
In a pivotal move to bolster leadership and enhance the nation’s ongoing commitment to infrastructure and transport, the Government of Botswana has announced the appointment of new senior officials to lead these critical sectors. On the 19th of August 2026, President Advocate Duma Gideon Boko named Hon. Keoagile Atamelang, Member of Parliament for Boteti East, as the new Minister of Transport and Infrastructure. This follows the resignation of Hon. Noah Salakae from the ministerial portfolio.
Hon. Keoagile Atamelang brings extensive institutional experience to the role, having previously served as Assistant Minister of Transport and Infrastructure. His familiarity with the sector is expected to provide continuity and strategic direction at a time when Botswana’s ambitions for modern infrastructure and sustainable economic development are at the forefront of the national agenda.
In addition to this major appointment, President Boko has also named Hon. Letlhogonolo Barongwang, Member of Parliament for Mogoditshane East, as the new Assistant Minister of Transport and Infrastructure. The duo is tasked with overseeing the development of efficient transport networks, enhanced connectivity, and the implementation of innovative projects vital to economic development and national competitiveness.
Effective leadership in the Transport and Infrastructure portfolio is widely acknowledged as a cornerstone for inclusive growth, improved public service, and attracting both local and foreign investment. These appointments come at a crucial time for Botswana, as the government redoubles efforts to achieve its long-term development goals.
“Strong leadership in this portfolio will therefore be critical to translating Botswana’s infrastructure ambitions into tangible economic and social outcomes,” stated the official government post.
The newly appointed Minister and Assistant Minister are expected to build on ongoing initiatives, accelerate project delivery, and champion forward-thinking policy reforms. Their leadership will be instrumental in translating Botswana’s vision into on-the-ground results for citizens and businesses alike.
