GITEX NIGERIA: A New Dawn for Nigeria’s Tech Ecosystem

GITEX GLOBAL, renowned as one of the world’s largest tech and start-up shows, is set to further its reach into Africa with the launch of GITEX NIGERIA. Scheduled for debut in September 2025, this highly anticipated event aims to revolutionize Nigeria’s burgeoning technology sector and create a dynamic platform for innovators, start-ups, and aspiring tech enthusiasts.

The announcement of GITEX NIGERIA took place during GITEX AFRICA in Morocco, the continent’s largest tech and start-up event. The signing ceremony was held between KAOUN International—the international event organizing arm of the Dubai World Trade Centre, which organizes GITEX GLOBAL—and the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) of Nigeria. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, Director General of NITDA, and Trixie LohMirmand, CEO of KAOUN International, with the esteemed presence of Dr. Tunji Alausa, Hon. Minister of State for Health and Social Reform in Nigeria.

GITEX NIGERIA is set to take place in Lagos and Abuja, the most strategically important business hubs in the country. This event is poised to become the largest in-market access opportunity of the decade, offering a platform for stakeholders to explore Nigeria’s vast tech ecosystem. It aims to highlight the biggest and most valuable opportunities within Africa’s most populous country, showcasing the immense talent of its tech-savvy youth.

Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi emphasized the importance of trade integration, stating, “You can’t trade in isolation; therefore, we need to create a platform to accelerate trade in Nigeria. Presidential priorities include the acceleration of diversification through digitization, industrialization, manufacturing, and innovation to reform the economy for sustained growth. Bringing GITEX to Nigeria gives us the opportunity to export Nigerian technology to the world.”

Trixie LohMirmand shared her excitement about the unique format of GITEX NIGERIA, designed to harness Nigeria’s exponential growth across sectors such as AI, Health, Finance, and Startups. “We hope to co-create and multiply global partnerships to forge new opportunities for Nigeria across industries with the biggest societal betterment potential,” she noted.

GITEX NIGERIA will shine a spotlight on key sectors experiencing rapid growth, including Artificial Intelligence, Future Finance, Digital Health, and Start-ups and Scale-ups. This inaugural event will integrate Nigeria’s tech ecosystem with GITEX AFRICA in Morocco, extending its reach to GITEX GLOBAL in Dubai and GITEX EUROPE in Berlin.

In line with Nigeria’s national digital strategy, GITEX NIGERIA will introduce several co-located shows, including AI Everything Nigeria, North Star Nigeria for Startups, and GITEX Health Tech 5.0 and GITEX Future Finance 5.0. This eagerly anticipated tech event promises to amplify in-market potential in a region poised for rapid economic growth, with projections indicating an impressive 11.2% growth rate for Nigeria in 2024 according to the African Development Bank.

As GITEX NIGERIA prepares for its launch, it stands as a testament to the continent’s commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship, creating opportunities for local and international players to thrive in Nigeria’s vibrant tech landscape.
