Strengthening Colombia-Africa Connectivity: Official Government Visit to Togo’s Port of Lomé
In a significant step toward expanding international ties, Colombia has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening relations with Africa, particularly through a recent official government visit to the Republic of Togo. Representatives from ProColombia’s India & MENA Commercial Office, including Alfonso Soria, accompanied the 4th Official Visit of the Government of Colombia to the African continent, emphasizing the country’s dedication to opening new avenues for trade, cultural exchange, and bilateral cooperation.
A crucial feature of this mission was the exploratory visit to the Port of Lomé, a pivotal logistics hub in West Africa. The visit provided valuable insights into the commercial and port dynamics of the region and underscored the strategic role that this port plays in fostering regional and intercontinental trade flows.
“The visit allowed us to identify opportunities to strengthen the connection between Colombian companies and strategic stakeholders in Togo, advancing processes that promote trade and bilateral cooperation,” noted Alfonso Soria.
Thanks to the dedicated work carried out under the auspices of the Africa Strategy, the visit has facilitated new prospects for engagement and collaboration. This strategy is led by the Vice Presidency of the Republic of Colombia and Vice President Francia Márquez Mina, with central support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism, and the Ministry of Culture.
Colombia’s approach—centering on connectivity, robust logistics, and a focus on **international trade (comercio exterior)**—reflects its intent to enhance its presence in Africa. By identifying complementary opportunities between Colombian and Togolese businesses, this initiative is designed to build sustainable bridges in trade, culture, and cooperation.
As Alfonso Soria highlighted, “We remain committed to opening more opportunities that promote trade, culture, and Colombia’s presence in Africa.”
With this active engagement, Colombia positions itself at the forefront of Latin American-African cooperation. Initiatives like these stand as testament to ongoing efforts, driven by ProColombia and supported by top government entities, to shape a new phase of international strategy—one that includes Africa as an essential partner in global development. The #estrategiaÁfrica (Africa Strategy) exemplifies Colombia’s vision for reconnection and collaboration with emergent markets.
Colombia’s journey continues, fueled by its promise to be known as “The Country of Beauty” and as an innovative, outward-looking nation ready to contribute and grow together with Africa.
