NOUAKCHOTT, 30th October, 2025 – The Higher Council for the Arabic Language in Africa, in collaboration with the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah, recently concluded the second International Scientific Conference titled “Methods of Promoting the Arabic Language in Africa and Strategies”.
This important event, held under the patronage of President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and supported by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, brought together a large gathering of Arab and African researchers and professors. The conference attracted delegates from 40 African and Arab countries and showcased 45 peer-reviewed research papers submitted from 16 nations. These papers addressed a variety of topics focused on promoting Arabic and enhancing its teaching across the continent.
The seventh scientific session was chaired by Dr. Mohamed Safi Al Mosteghanemi, Secretary-General of the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah, highlighting a broad range of research subjects. Discussions included the use of gamification to teach Arabic as a foreign language in South Africa, linguistic evolution in Sudanese dialects, practical solutions for Arabic grammar challenges, legal perspectives on learning Arabic based on African fatwas, analysis of the link between Arabic and national sovereignty in Africa, and the vital role of Zawiyas and free Arabic education in preserving the language in Algeria.
Dr. Al Mosteghanemi emphasized, “The significance of any event stems from its topic, and the second International Scientific Conference on Arabic in Africa derives its value from its noble goal: serving Arabic, one of the most eloquent and richest languages.”
He further stated, “This is made possible by the generous support of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, who works tirelessly to promote the Arabic language and its people worldwide.”
The conference stands as a remarkable effort to uphold and strengthen the presence and teaching of the Arabic language throughout Africa.
